MISCELLANY

May was a month for doing good and giving recognition. We held a Google Map Maker event at the World Bank to help accurately map the future Republic of South Sudan, and with the Newseum, launched a YouTube channel to honor journalists who have lost their lives covering war zones and conflict areas. We awarded 65 young women with Google Anita Borg Memorial scholarships and crowned seven-year old Matteo Lopez from South San Francisco, Calif., the U.S. 2011 Doodle 4 Google winner. Finally, our own distinguished engineer Ken Thompson was awarded the prestigious Japan Prize at a ceremony at our headquarters.
