Western food at Big Mouth Sg Petani Kedah

Agak lama juga rasa tak makan makanan ala western, malam ni ke Sg Petani sebab wife ada workshop. Sebelum tu ke satu kedai makan western bernama Big Mouth. Restoran ni betul depan Giant Sg Petani.

Sempoi jugak kedai ni ada table biasa, table dgn sofa dan table ala jepun bersila la. Menu agak limited tp sudah memadai untuk aku. Harga adalah berpatutan. Tenderloin steak RM 12. Kalau ke Sg Petani bolehlah try restoran ni.

Selamat datang tahun 1433 Hijrah. Moga tahun ini lebih baik dari tahun lepas.

Kisahnya masalah MacBook Pro

Minggu lepas hari Jumaat lepas meeting tetiba MBP tak respond, sblm tu mmg tgh buat kerja dan biar idle. Mula ingat cable charging yg problem tp bila dah test dgn cable lain tgk still tak boleh on, apa2 indicator pun tak menyala. So malam tu terus ke Switch Queensbay Mall kut2 boleh diatasi. Check2 salesperson tu masih tak boleh buat apa. So hari ni nak pi hantar ke Switch Services lak. Harap dapat settle cpt sbb byk keje nak buat. Sementara tu pakai dulu Acer Aspire 4520 ni dulu.


Update 1:
Aku baru balik dari Switch services, bila dicuba di sana staff di situ berjaya on kan MacBook Pro ni, cara dia on kan tu tak dapat pulak aku tangkap. Tp dia ada letak telinga dia dekat area bateri rasanya then dia diagnose problem. Dia kata takde apa problem, charger pun jalan. Hairan bin ajaib.


Update 2:
Sampai ofis terus aku charge so far sampai skrg nampak ok, dr 2% sampai skrg 71% cuma tadi ada keluar error msg kata one of the usb port has been disable sbb guna power byk sgt. Aku syak usb cable yg aku guna utk charge iPhone ni problem. Bila cabut je rasa confirm lah sbb ada ada yg dah putus pun wire2 kecil dgn kepala usb tu.

Bersikap biasa tidak menghilangkan apa-apa:

Kalau anda berjalan kaki di dalam universiti, anda akan dapati ada segelintir daripada mereka membawa gaya yang luar biasa. Gaya luar biasa yang saya maksudkan itu ialah bersikap sombong dan merasa sangat besar. Perwatakan mereka ini adakalanya menggerunkan pelajar.

Ada pelajar yang merasakan bahawa manusia seperti ini sebagai cukup besar dan hebat. Ada yang sangat formaliti dan 'power distance'. Cara mereka melayan pelajar sama seperti tauke besar melayan pekerja buruh dari Bangladesh. Di zaman saya belajar dulu, ada seorang Professor yang akan membuangkan kertas kerja pelajar ke dalam tong sampah kalau kita tersalah menulis nama ayahnya yang sepatutnya diletakkan tanda -- di hadapannya. Ada pula yang pelajar hanya boleh datang berjumpa kalau ada temujanji. Kalau tidak, jangan sesekali menunjuk muka.

Saya tidak pasti ada atau tidak lagi budaya akademik seperti ini di zaman ini. Tetapi sesekali saya terhidu ada juga. Terutamanya mereka yang memegang jawatan tinggi di jabatan atau fakulti.

Gaya ini menjadikan manusia ini dipandang tinggi. Walaupun saya selalu merasakan orang akademik hanya perlu bersikap biasa sahaja.

Beberapa tahun dulu, ketika saya memulakan pengajian PhD, saya mengirimkan email kepada seorang ahli akademik di sebuah universiti. Caranya menjawab agak melukakan. Mereka melayan kita seperti kita ini hanya budak sekolah darjah 5. Itupun, permintaan saya bukanlah besar sangat. Saya hanya memintakan soal selidik sahaja.

Satu hari saya terbaca satu artikel yang ditulis oleh seorang ahli akademik. Kerana beliau menggunakan teori yang hampir sama dengan penyelidikan saya, saya mengirimkan email bertanyakan dia sesuatu. Malangnya, ia tidak dilayan sedikit pun.

Tidak mengapalah. Itu cerita lama. Tidak lama selepas itu, saya menulis satu jurnal dan diterima. Pembuat teori itu, seorang profesor ternama dari Eropah menjadi Ketua Editornya. Kami saling berhubungan selepas itu melalui email berdasarkan beberapa sarannya. Dia juga mengenali saya, kerana dia juga adalah rakan baik penyelia saya.

Selepas hari itu, saya tahu begitu mudahnya untuk kita berurusan dengan profesor ternama dari luar yang ada ratusan penerbitan, berbanding ahli akademik biasa yang hanya ada satu dua penerbitan sahaja. Mengalami pengalaman buruk itu, saya jarang lagi berurusan dengan ahli akademik seperti itu. Lebih baik saya menulis sahaja email bertanya pembuat teori.

Saya tidak tahu sama ada anda pernah mengalami pengalaman seperti ini.

Sebab itu, saya sangat jarang untuk tidak menjawab email orang, sama ada ia penting atau tidak. Saya tahu, apabila seseorang itu mengirimkan kita email, tentulah mereka ada harapan besar daripada kita.

Zainol, teman baik saya di Australia tahu bagaimana caranya untuk memerangkap manusia seperti ini. Dia selalu berkata, 'nanti, biar aku google tengok nama orang ini. Hebat atau tak'.

The Theory of Multiple Intelligences

Dr. Howard Gardner, Professor of Education at Harvard University, developed a theory called Multiple Intelligences. The theory suggests that the traditional notion of intelligence, which is based on I.Q. testing, is far too limited.

Instead, Dr. Gardner proposes eight different intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in children and adults. Here’s a brief summary of these eight intelligences:

1. Linguistic Intelligence (Word Smart): This type of intelligence involves sensitivity to spoken and written language, the ability to learn languages, and the capacity to use language to accomplish certain goals. This intelligence includes the ability to effectively use language to express oneself rhetorically or poetically; and language as a means to remember information. Writers, poets, lawyers and speakers are among those that Gardner sees as having high linguistic intelligence.
2. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence (Number/Reasoning Smart): This type consists of the capacity to analyze problems logically, carry out mathematical operations, and investigate issues scientifically. In Gardner’s words, it entails the ability to detect patterns, reason deductively and think logically. This intelligence is most often associated with scientific and mathematical thinking.
3. Musical Intelligence (Music Smart): This type involves skill in the performance, composition, and appreciation of musical patterns. It encompasses the capacity to recognize and compose musical pitches, tones, and rhythms.
4. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence (Body Smart): This type entails the potential of using one’s whole body or parts of the body to solve problems. It is the ability to use mental abilities to coordinate bodily movements.
5. Spatial Intelligence (Picture Smart): This type involves the potential to recognize and use the patterns of wide space and more confined areas.
6. Interpersonal Intelligence (People Smart): This type is concerned with the capacity to understand the intentions, motivations and desires of other people. It allows people to work effectively with others. Educators, salespeople, religious and political leaders and counsellors all need a well-developed interpersonal intelligence.
7. Intrapersonal Intelligence (Self Smart): This type entails the capacity to understand oneself, to appreciate one’s feelings, fears and motivations.
8. Naturalist Intelligence (Nature Smart): This type enables human beings to recognize, categorize and draw upon certain features of the environment. A number of schools in North America have looked to structure curricula according to these intelligences, and to design classrooms and even whole schools to reflect the understandings that Howard Gardner developed. It takes a commitment though from school boards, administrators and teachers to put something like this into practice.

Be kind and generous to the Muhajirun and the Ansar. Those out of them who are good, be good to them; those who are bad overlook their lapses. Be good to the people of the conquered lands. Do not rest content until you have brought the miscreants to book. Treat all the people as equal. Be a pillar of strength for those who are weak and oppressed. Those who are strong but do wrong, make them pay for their wrong-doings. In the distribution of booty and other matters be above nepotism. Let no consideration of relationship or selfish interest weigh with you. The Satan is at large; it may tempt you. Rise above all temptations and perform your duties in accordance with the injunctions of Islam. Get guidance from the Holy Quran and Sunnah. Freely consult the wise men around you. Apply your own mind in difficult cases, and seek light from God. Be simple in your living and your habits. Let there be no show or ostentation about you. Lead life as a model Muslim. As you are the leader of the Muslims, justify your leadership by being the best among them all. May God bless you.

Your agenda

Your agenda:

Most of the time, if you ask someone about their agenda, it turns out that it involves doing what's on someone else's agenda. 

I need to do this for my boss, this for my husband, that for the PTSA and this other thing for the kids. As soon as you turn over your agenda to others, you're giving up one of the biggest opportunities you have to contribute. 

Setting an agenda is often as important as checking the boxes. Obviously, you can't be part of any system without engaging with other people and their agendas.  

But perhaps we've absorbed that habit so completely that we've ceded all responsibility and in fact don't even have an agenda any longer...
