MMSC teams up with JARING to provide edutainment

Multi Media Synergy Corporation Sdn Bhd (MMSC), an end-to-end e-learning solutions provider, has forged a partnership with JARING, to provide educational content to pre-school and primary school students through a new portal.

Subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English and Bahasa Malaysia will be delivered via the portal in the form of games and edutainment – educational entertainment.

In a statement on Jan 26, MMSC's managing director Professor Dr Abdul Rahman Abdullah said this collaboration would benefit both parties, as MMSC would be able to deliver its readily available resources to JARING's 800,000 subscribers.

"MMSC has found a choice partner that enjoys a strong subscriber base. We can leverage on JARING's strong branding as well as its internal strengths covering its internet infrastructure and customer helpdesk facilities," he said.

Both companies would benefit from the collaboration as they combine their different skills and experiences in developing educational resources for the youth of Malaysia, he said.

"As an (Multimedia Super Corridor) MSC-status company, we have heeded the government's call to aggressively upgrade and advance local technology and expertise in creating and producing Malaysian-made IT-related products and services," Abdul Rahman elaborated.

During the three-year partnership, signed in December 2005, MMSC will invest in the development of the content and portal, which will be deployed through JARING's infrastructure.

MMSC will continue to develop the contents, based on the amount of revenue generated from the project.

The company plans to upload 100 new content modules into the portal during the initial stage.

MMSC will also be managing the portal and public subscription for non-JARING members.

JARING, on the other hand, will provide the infrastructure and helpdesk support for both JARING and non-JARING members.

According to Abdul Rahman, MMSC will expand its targeted audience to include kindergarten, primary and secondary school, higher learning and tertiary and skill based markets.
