5 Ways to lower your blood sugar

1. Go for a walk right after lunch.
A brisk walk not only helps you shed pounds but improves your body's sensitivity to insulin.

2. Listen to music you love for 15 minutes.
Without distractions. It's one of the simplest yet best ways to relieve stress, which has a wonderful ripple effect on all aspects of your health.

3. Instead of having a snack, call a friend.
Most between-meals eating is out of boredom or habit, not hunger. Better to do something good for your soul.

4. Put a plateful of raw veggies on your dinner table.
Nibble on them between forkfuls of your regular meal -- you'll have a fuller belly (and extra nutrition) on fewer calories.

5. Get to bed 30 minutes earlier.
A full night of sleep does wonders for your weight and blood sugar.

Egyptian woman gives birth to septuplets

Hospital: Egyptian woman gives birth to septuplets - Yahoo! News:
"ALEXANDRIA, Egypt - An Egyptian woman gave birth to septuplets early Saturday in the coastal city of Alexandria, a hospital director said.

Ghazala Khamis, 27, was in good condition at the hospital after having a blood transfusion during her Caesarean section due to bleeding, said Emad Darwish, director of the El-Shatbi Hospital where she gave birth.

The newborns, four boys and three girls, weigh between 3.2 pounds and 6.17 pounds and are in stable condition, Darwish said. They have been placed in incubators in four different hospitals that have special premature baby units, he said.

"This is a very rare pregnancy — something I have never witnessed over my past 33 years in this profession," Darwish said.

Darwish decided to carry out the Caesarean section at the end of Khamis' eighth month of pregnancy due to the pressure on her kidneys.

Khamis, the wife of a farmer in the northern Egyptian province of Beheira, already has three daughters. She was admitted to the hospital two months ago."

9 common health misconceptions

Health magazine has the real facts about common health misconceptions:

  1. You don’t have to drink 8 glasses of water a day in addition to all the other fluids you consume.
  2. Stress doesn’t turn your hair gray. We gray according to our genetics.
  3. Reading in poor light doesn’t damage your eyes.
  4. A cup or two of coffee a day isn’t harmful. As a matter of fact it has healthful benefits.
  5. “Feed a cold, starve a fever” has no medical validity. Fluids will keep mucus thinner and and help loosen congestion.
  6. Fresh food isn’t ALWAYS better than frozen.
  7. Eggs aren’t necessarily bad for you. One egg contains 213 milligrams of cholesterol, but it also offers lean protein and vitamins A and D. Just watch your total cholesterol intake.
  8. Getting wet and cold won’t cause you to get sick…. unless you get so cold that you suffer from hypothermia.
  9. You won’t get sick from lead in lipstick.

Interesting reasons why people get headaches

Interesting reasons why people get headaches:
Pain medications

Ironically, people who take a lot of pain medications on a regular basis can experience more headaches. Both over the counter pain relievers and prescription pain relievers are the culprits.

Odor

Strong odors from perfumes, new carpet, new car, smoke, or fumes can cause headaches.

Caffeine

Too much caffeine can cause headaches. Caffeine usually helps relieve headaches, however, when it is taken in large doses it does the opposite.

Lots of Stress

Stress is a big culprit, especially chronic stress. People who tend to push themselves beyond the limit tend to experience more headaches. Physical activity and taking breaks can help relieve stress, which in turn will help reduce headaches.

Watching TV or using the computer

Excessive use of computers or watching TV for extended periods of time can cause headaches.

Sinuses

Dry Sinuses or congested sinuses can cause headaches.

Blood sugar

Imbalances in blood sugar, especially low blood sugar can cause headaches. Imbalances in blood sugar can be corrected by eating adequate protein. Protein helps to stabilize blood sugar levels.

Food

Certain foods that contain a lot of tyramine (amino acid) can cause headaches. Examples include: peanuts, chocolate, and red wine. Other foods that contain nitrates can also cause headaches. Examples include: salami, hot dogs, and sausages. Although not as common, diary and wheat can also cause headaches in certain individuals.

Weather

Changes in weather can cause headaches.

Altitude

Higher altitudes can cause headaches. Many mountain climbers experience headaches as they reach higher altitudes. Even a visit to a town or city that is at a higher elevation than when you currently live can cause a headache.

Hormones

Changes in hormone levels can also bring upon headaches. Women are obviously more susceptible to this type of headache.

Sleep

Very little sleep or sudden changes in sleep patterns can precipitate headaches.

Beer bottle in man's colon

Doctors in central Kenya have successfully removed an empty half-litre beer bottle from a man's colon, a report said Friday, but how it got there remains a mystery.

The 26cm bottle was removed on Monday from the colon of the 33-year-old man after two operations in a Kiambu District Hospital, about 20km from the capital, the Daily Metro newspaper reported.

Although the man, whose identity was not disclosed, said he had pushed the bottle through his rectum, Okoth said it was nearly impossible for the man to have done that by himself.

Forgotten scalpel caused the fuss, says woman

IOL: Forgotten scalpel caused the fuss, says woman:
Rio de Janeiro - After a 23-year-long stomach ache, a Brazilian woman finally discovered the cause of her suffering - a scalpel had been left in her stomach.

Local media reports said on Monday that a knife had been found in Maria Abadia Dias' lower abdomen after doctors took an X-ray in the central Brazilian town of Goiania, in the state of Goias.

The five-centimetre-long scalpel was apparently left there by doctors in a public hospital in Campos Belos, Goias in 1984, when the woman, now 47, gave birth through a C-section.

The surgical instrument is to be removed sometime later this month. The woman has said she will sue the hospital in Campos Belos as soon as she is rid of the scalpel.

"Doctors always told me that I had nothing and that it was only a question of age," the woman said of her persistent stomach pain. - Sapa-dpa
