REASONS FOR REGISTRATION
1. Why are you doing this registration?
Answer: The Malaysian government requires all prepaid mobile users to register. All the three mobile service providers in Malaysia support this government-led initiative.
2. Where else in the world do they require registration?
Answer: Countries that have made registration compulsory include Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Switzerland.
3. Why are you starting with Penang and Melaka?
Answer: This registration campaign is a pilot. So it would be geographically more manageable to start it in the states of Penang and Melaka. as stated by the Minister.
4. When can we expect other states to be involved?
Answer: New prepaid registration will be compulsory nation-wide starting from January 2006.
5. Will registration be made compulsory?
Answer: Yes. For the pilot stage, new registrations will be compulsory in Penang and Melaka. And existing users are encouraged to register.
REGISTRATION PROCESS
6. Who should register?
Answer: All prepaid users are strongly encouraged to register. However it is compulsory for all new prepaid users in Penang and Melaka to register at point of purchase during this pilot registration campaign (From 1 October to 31 December 2005).
7. How do I register?
Answer: It is easy.
1. Just visit your mobile service providers or their authorised dealers/agents with your mobile phone and your identity card/passport for verification.
2. Fill in and sign the registration form.
3. And you are done!
8. Where can I register in Penang and Melaka?
Answer: You can register at your mobile service provider?s service centres or at their authorised agents / dealers.
9. Do I have to pay for registration?
Answer: No. Registration is free of charge.
10. What information do I have to give?
Answer: You only need to provide your name, identity card number and your mobile phone number.
11. I am not a Malaysian. Do I have to register?
Answer: All users, regardless of their nationality, are strongly encouraged to register, as long as they are using a Malaysian prepaid mobile service. As a foreigner, you would need to produce your passport or work permit to register.
12. What if I am overseas? Will I be able to register from a different country?
Answer: No. You need to be present with mobile phone and your identity card at your service provider?s service centres, authorised agent or dealer to be registered.
13. Can I get someone to register on my behalf?
Answer: No. You need to be present with your mobile phone and your identity card at your mobile service provider?s service centres, authorised agent or dealer to be registered.
14. Could I purchase the prepaid pack and come back to register at a later date?
Answer: No.
15. Are there any other ways to register ? for example online, through the telephone, mail-in, or fax-in?
Answer: No. You need to be physically present and produce your identity card at your mobile service provider?s service centres, authorised agent or dealer to be registered.
16. If I am with Mobile service provider A, can I register with another mobile service provider?
Answer: You can only register with the mobile service provider you are with.
If you are a :
* Celcom customer, you need to go to a Celcom service centre, authorised agent or dealer.
* DiGi customer, you need to go to a DiGi service centre, authorized agent or dealer.
* Maxis customer, you need to go to a Maxis service centre, authorized agent or dealer.
17. Can I register in other states ? outside of Penang and Melaka?
Answer: Yes, you can. Simply check with your service provider on where you can register.
18. What if I bought my prepaid pack in another state? Can I still use it in Penang and Melaka?
Answer: Yes. You may continue to use it.
19. I have multiple prepaid mobile numbers. Do I have to register all of them?
Answer: Yes. You will have to register each and every prepaid mobile number that you have with the respective service provider.
20. If I "take over" someone else’s prepaid mobile number, can I just use his/her registration?
Answer: No. You need to re-register under your name.
21. If I am an employer of foreign workers can I register on their behalf?
Answer: No. It should be registered under the purchaser/user?s name.
22. As a foreigner, I do not have a Malaysian identity card. How do I register?
Answer: You should register using your valid passport or your current work permit.
24. Who can I call for more information on the registration?
Answer: You can call your mobile service provider?s Customer Service Help Line.
CONSEQUENCE OF NOT REGISTERING
25. What will happen if I don?t register?
Answer: Registration for new customers in Penang and Melaka is compulsory from 1st October 2005 onwards. Existing customers are strongly encouraged to register.
26. If I choose not to register, can I continue to top up and use my prepaid line?
Answer: Yes, for now, you may. However, we would strongly encourage you to register.
27. What benefits would I get if I were to register?
Answer: You would be able to enjoy incentives from your mobile service provider upon verification of your registration.
CONFIDENTIALITY
28. How do I know if the personal information that I give will be kept confidential?
Answer: You can rest assured that the information you provide will be treated with strict confidentiality.
29. Will my personal information be shared with other parties?
Answer: No. It will not be shared.
