It has tied up with property developer, Asia Pacific Land Bhd (AP Land) and Internet services provider, BTP Wireless Sdn Bhd, to provide wireless broadband services at AP Land’s Bandar Tasik Puteri township development.
Speaking after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the three parties, Jaring managing director Mohamed Awang Lah said the partnership was the beginning of a new revenue stream for Jaring.
Out of its 700,000 active subscribers, Mohamed said only “a few thousand” were using Jaring broadband services.
He said Jaring was targeting 6,500 out of the 8,000 households already settled at the township.
Mohamed said the Jaring broadband package would be packaged together with the new homes. AP Land intends to build another 17,000 homes in that project.
“In the old days, when people built hotels, it had to have a swimming pool. Now it has to come with Internet access. The trend will be the same for new housing development projects."
Mohamed said it was better to work with property developers right from the start of a development as it would facilitate installation and provisions for future expansion of the broadband facilities.
He said Jaring were in discussions with other parties to provide similar packages to other developments.
Meanwhile, AP Land joint managing director Low Su-Ming said this partnership was its first such tie-up.
“Property development has become not just about building buildings but, in order to provide a lifestyle product, we need to provide what the market wants. IT cannot be ignored any more,” she added.
Low said the company would consider implementing such wireless Internet services for its future developments.
